How a homeopathic consultation works

Homeopathy is a natural form of medicine, used for over 200 years, that treats the whole person. So, when a client books in with a specific disease or ailment, I look at all aspects of that person; physical, mental and emotional. The homeopathic belief is that illness is not just a physical state but a reflection of how the whole person is coping with life.

The basic principle of homeopathy is that 'like cures like'.  Any substance that produces symptoms of disease in a healthy person can cure a sick person with similar symptoms.  For example, drinking coffee can cause insomnia.  So, coffee in homeopathic form is a remedy used to help people suffering from sleep problems.

What to expect from your consultation

I see clients from Crowborough and the surrounding area. With online working my client base has broadened across the country. At your first consultation, which can be online or at my Forest Row clinic, you will be asked in detail what your current symptoms are and what you want help with. A full case history is taken to ascertain your medical history, any injuries or illnesses and emotional disturbances. The more information you can give me at your initial consultation, the better in terms of helping me find the best homeopathic remedy (or remedies) for you. The first consultation will generally take 1 hour.

Follow-up appointments last 30 minutes. I will then draw up a prescription for you to order your remedies from a homeopathic pharmacy. I recommend Helios in Tunbridge Wells and Ainsworths in London. Both post remedies.

Homeopathic remedies

Homeopathic remedies are made from many substances: animal, plant and mineral. Formed from minuscule doses, they are neither harmful nor addictive and can be used safely by babies, pregnant women and the elderly.

If you are given your remedy in the form of tablets, place straight into your mouth from the bottle cap or a clean spoon. The tablets should not be handled and any dropped ones discarded. Hold in the mouth for a few seconds before crunching and swallowing.  If you are given your remedy in a dropper bottle, simply place one drop on your tongue.

Ideally, you should avoid eating/drinking anything or brushing your teeth at least 5 minutes before or after taking a remedy.

Homeopathic remedies should be stored away from strong smells and electrical equipment, including computers and mobile phones.

Strong smells are believed to affect the action of the remedy. Therefore, keep your remedies away from mint, menthol, eucalyptus and aromatherapy oils.

You should be prepared to get better in an unconventional way.  You may experience some form of elimination from the body like a discharge (possibly nasal), diarrhoea or increased perspiration, skin symptoms or an emotional change.  You may also experience a return of old symptoms. These are usually positive signs that the homeopathic treatment is working and that your body is healing itself. They should be short lived. However, please contact me if you are concerned in any way. I am here to support you on your journey to a healthier you.
