It was only after ditching the fad diets that I learned how to reconnect with my body and nourish it well.

My Story

In my teens, I quite suddenly and very noticeably put on a lot of weight, and my obsession with trying to find the right diet began. Years of searching only resolved when I stopped believing the false claims of every fad diet out there and learned some basic principles of nutrition. I reconnected with my body, gave it the appropriate balance of nutrients, and found the right type of exercise for me. Finally, I was able to eat in a sustainable and healthy way.

I have since retrained as a nutritional therapist so I can help women avoid the years of struggle I went through to get to where I am now: healthy, full of energy, at my ideal weight, and truly enjoying my food and my life.

If you doubt you can ever get to where I am now, it’s simply because you haven’t had the right information or support. I was lucky and was helped in my journey and now I support other women in theirs.

How my weight issues started
It’s a familiar story: I grew up loving sweet snacks. My body learned early on that sugar gave me a buzz I craved. Often, I would eat an entire packet of biscuits and still want more. Even though I felt very unwell afterwards, this never seemed to stop me from indulging the next time.

In my late teens, the combination of alcohol and poor diet took its toll. This is when I became overweight and started to hate the way I looked and felt. Next came years of the typical yo-yo dieting and I tried every diet out there: low fat, no fat, low carb, high protein etc. I felt I would never be happy in my body.

How my weight issues continued
After university, I started a career as a solicitor which meant hurried meals with not the greatest ingredients and a fair bit of alcohol. Motherhood soon followed and I gave up my career to care for my three children. Although I loved every minute, I struggled with the look and feel of my post-pregnancy body, having had three children close together. While they were young, I wanted a new challenge and a way to work from home, so I retrained as a homeopath. This was a big departure from being a solicitor, but I had such remarkable results in resolving my eczema while pregnant with homeopathy that I was intrigued. Retraining and then juggling a new career with three children to care for was fulfilling but it did not give me much time to look after myself properly.

It’s worth mentioning that I have always been active and love running but frustratingly, never found it helped me to lose weight. If anything, after a long run, I’d put on weight. Little did I know that the wrong kind of exercise, without nourishing your body correctly, can make your body want to hold onto as much weight as possible. My body was still out of balance because I didn’t know how to treat it well.

How my weight issues resolved
After years of trying to find the right diet for me, one day I was out running and listened to a podcast with a personalised nutrition coach who was talking my language. I signed up the next day and learned how I could give my body the macronutrients it needed (fat, protein and carbs) and not put on weight. This was a game-changer for me, and I started to feel better and better both inside and out. I also learned how exercise, sleep and mindset all played a big part in achieving optimal health and weight.

I admit it was hard work at times, but with the right education and coaching, I got to my ideal weight where I have stayed for years.

I’m now in my early 50s, run marathons, and honestly feel better than I can ever remember. I also eat more food than I ever have and enjoy it all to the fullest! I did not believe this could be possible, but with the right support, it is.
